Attendances and Referrals

Client attendance ranges from one 'session' per month to a maximum of nine 'sessions' per week - one session being either one morning or one afternoon. The average attendance for most clients is two to three sessions per week which can be increased in times of need of more support. We encourage all our clients to get involved in community activities and many are involved in voluntary work, adult education and training and part time work.

Demand for places at the Centre is high. We meet regularly to discuss referrals received. Two staff members are allocated to carry out assessments which almost always happen in the prospective client's home.

Staff liase with referees to enable us to have sufficient information to prioritise the referrals against the number of places that are available every month. We have worked very hard to try to offer assessments to people whom we decide, from the information available to us, need the service most and would derive the greatest benefit. Clearly we can only do this with the help of referees. Our criteria for prioritising for assessment are seriousness of mental health problems, emotional and social isolation and likelihood of engagement with day care services.
