How will I get there?

Train: 10-15 minutes walk from Wallington Railway Station.

There is a car park behind the Centre - please park on the right hand side.

When is it open?

Clients hours 10.00 a.m. - 12.45 p.m. and 1.30 p.m - 4.00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday

10.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. on Thursday

Morning Sessions 10.00 a.m. - 12.45 p.m.

Afternoon Sessions 1.30 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.

Office hours 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 pm Mon-Fri

Who runs it?

WRC is a joint venture between the South West London & St. George’s NHS Trust and Sutton Community Services; providing a service for people with mental health problems living within the London Borough of Sutton.
The Centre is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team - made up of community nurses, occupational therapists and social workers; as well as a receptionist, Centre Manager, Housekeeper and nursery nurse staff.

What can I choose to do?

There are a wide variety of groups and activities running at the Centre (approximately 25 each week) which include:-
Creative writing, assertion, music, games, relaxation, badminton, gardening, anxiety management, parents group, art/craft, tennis, etc.
People are expected to make their own way to groups held outside the Centre. The groups are reviewed regularly and changed as appropriate with clients' views being taken into account.

How often will I come per week?

This varies as everyone has different needs. On average clients attend two to three sessions a week - a session being a morning or afternoon.

How will I manage with children?

There is a nursery at the Centre which offers child care for up to ten pre school children per session. The nursery is open:- 9.30 a.m. - 12.45 p.m. Monday to Friday

Who can I talk to?

A member of the team will be your case manager who will be there to discuss your groups and other issues.
Individual sessions may be offered, but usually after you have had a chance to get to know the Centre, groups and case manager.
Your case manager will welcome you on your first day and introduce you to a fellow group member. Client confidentiality is respected at all times. Your psychiatrist or social worker would be informed for example for your own benefit, if your mental health is deteriorating, so that they can offer help.

Are there any rules?

Generally these focus on respect for self and others.
No alcohol or illicit drugs are allowed on the premises.
No violent or aggressive behaviour is tolerated at the Centre.
Smoking is allowed in designated smoking area only.
No pets can be brought to the Centre.
Owners of mobile phones must keep them switched off during groups and respond to any calls in the hallway.
The Trust has a policy of "Zero tolerance for racist language or behaviour".

What about refreshments?

Clients are asked to provide their own lunch if they are at the Centre over the lunchtime period.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are available for 20p a session (Morning or Afternoon). There is a catering committee which arranges food for social occasions at the Centre.

How can I express my views and opinions?

Through your case manager - through the WRC newsletter - through the clients representative committee. There is also a complaints procedure, details given by the Centre Manager.
Also you can attend the 'Open Forum' which meets here on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

How long will I come for?

Every client is seen as an individual.
Clients have regular reviews; initially three months after starting, then every six months where progress and needs are discussed.
If you attend the Centre for two years, you will have a change of case manager after that time. Discharge is planned and discussed in partnership with your case manager. Clients have access to their notes at the Centre due to our open access policy.

What might I gain from coming?

Activities, companionship, a sense of belonging, help with problems, understanding, links with the community, activities and links with professional and voluntary agencies.

How can I start attending the Centre?

All attendents must be referred by a member of their Community Mental Health Team.
