Introduction by Lee H,

with the help of Zam

Since starting with the National Autistic Society at Coney Hall, West Wickham, I have taken part in several activities, one of which is laying out this newsletter. I have also studied for the Open University, gone on nature walks, on travel training to Croydon and Bromley, and had lunch and a drink out in the community, at the Addington Village Inn and at Hayes Harvester.

There are many facilities at the Coney Hall Day Centre, such as computers and art materials. There are lots of staff, the ratio of staff to service-users is 1:2.

When we come in in the morning at 9:30am, we can have a drink. The service users are told what they will be doing on that day. The main activity sessions, of two hours each, run from 10am to 12pm, and 1pm to 3pm. In between we have lunch, which lasts an hour. Sometimes people go for Community Lunch at 12pm. They choose where they are going to go.

The many activities that individuals take part in include Shopping, Trampolining, Cycling, Local Walk, Park Visit, Movement (e.g. practising throwing a ball), Bowling, Canoeing, Swimming, Work Experience (e.g. at the supermarket), Communication (practising signing or verbal), Museum visit and Travel training (on public transport).
