Andrew B

9th -23rd April Easter break

During the Easter break while Andrew was off school he came to Coney Hall and joined in various activities that were on offer. Andrew enjoyed himself over the two weeks and here are some of the things he got up to.

A typical morning session for Andrew would be a ‘reading and writing’ session. Andrew is very capable and explained to us exactly what he wanted to do, which was read some of the books we have. (Especially the nursery rimes) One morning Andrew surprised me when he explained that he would like to write a letter to his local newsagent. To do this we would use the computer on which he was a bit of a wizard! Andrew had a very good understanding of how the computer worked and was capable of changing fonts and letter sizes.

This was one of the activities that Andrew joined in with maximum effort. With a personal stereo on and the Beatles playing Andrew managed to stay on the trampoline for the whole session (1 hour) which is brilliant exercise. But for Andrew it is something else its Bouncing Karaoke!

As it was the Easter holidays Andrew was allowed to indulge in making to his own recipe: honey and chocolate eggs. These were made in tubs 10 cm wide and 3cm deep, which were lined with chocolate, then filled with pure runny honey, leaving enough room to seal the top with another layer of chocolate. These were extremely rich and Andrew was the only one brave enough to eat one.

These were by far the most enjoyed activities out of the two weeks.

Andrew visited two parks one being Kelsey Park and the other Addington Hills. These parks were very different from each other which gave Andrew a wide choice of plants. Kelsey Park was a park full of different trees and had lots of different flowers which gave Andrew a chance collecting different types of flowers making huge collections. Addington Hills is full of pine tress (Andrew’s favourite) this made it easier for Andrew to limit his collecting and he could be a lot more picky with what he could keep. Also not having a carrier bag and only pockets meant less space to use. Andrew could be left in a part of the woods with a member of staff and lots of pine-cones being very happy and content.

Andrew was a very chatty addition to Coney hall and staff had lots of long interesting conversations with him. It was a good two weeks and we hoped to see him again some time soon. This hope came true as Andrew returned to Coney Hall for another stay a month later.
